1. Colchester - Naturalwatt Microgrid System

Kevin is happy as he and his family can see how they use 'their own' energy by logging on to his own live dashboard. The system tracks the energy generated and monitors the carbon savings. You can see when green energy is available e.g. to do washing for example. A true 'home power station' that provides a supply even when the national grid fails. He will save up to 60% of his electricity bills, as he already uses a lot at night rate. He reckons a typical family might save up to 75%. Finally his family have reduced their Carbon Footprint considerably.

"There’s something really great about knowing I’m using green energy that I’ve harvested. But only the Naturalwatt MicroGrid offers the transparency and control that allows me to go online, at any time, to see how much the system is generating and what I’m consuming I can see the difference I’m making" Mr. K. Bell, Colchester

2. Pool Heating System

A swimming pool is a large body of water and typically costs a lot to heat, up to £3,000 a year or £15 -20 per day. The system below could save you all this money, and pay for itself in as little as 3 years! The pool here is 21,000 litres when full. The system shown here provides about 100kWh of heat for the pool per day, even on a fairly hazy day. This raises the pool temperature by 3-4 degrees Celsius per day. Not only that it will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by many tons per annum. And importantly it extends the pools usable life to 8-9 months of the year.

Renewable energy company Naturalwatt provide construction giant David McLean with their innovative MicroGrid® system to power ‘Eco-cabin’. David McLean Contractors, the construction arm of David McLean Group, has set up an eco-cabin as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility policy and is using a number of environmentally friendly technologies on its sites. David McLean chose the Naturalwatt Microgrid® system to supply their Eco-Cabin with clean, green electricity.

Will Grafton, Managing Director of Naturalwatt says: “David McLean were attracted by our system’s innovation, reliability and the unprecedented level of control that it gave them over the renewal energy they harvest on their 24-hour site.”

4. Remote System Example

This system is providing power in a remote location, Katale nr Entebbe Uganda and was exported as a complete system in a container and installed by local technical people. We track its output every 20 minutes using GPRS and are aware of any faults before the owner. It provides silent and economical power for the house and site to provide lighting and all domestic systems. The site now has power despite the fact global warming has made the Lake Victoria nearby a lot drier and left the local hydro power company without enough water!

5. Devon Site

This site has been running for over a year and shows a 2.5kWp system on the garage, facing south west, and it runs almost all of the house systems most of the time.

The system also runs a home office in an log cabin outbuilding.
