The Feed-In Tariff Is The Government's Electricity Buy Back Scheme.
Under the feed-in tariff you get paid for all the energy you produce - even if you use it yourself. It's tax free, index linked and guaranteed for 25 years.
Under this scheme, solar PV is not only green, it's also profitable with a 5-8% return on investment on average.

Assumptions and Explanations
Expand this section to find out how we calculated these values.
- The Net Profit figure includes all savings and earnings from the solar system less the initial cost of the system.
- Default value for the Estimated Annual Electricity bill is based on the UK national average of £600.
- Default Price per unit of electricity is based on the UK national average of 13.9p.
- Default value for the Annual electricity price inflation is based on the past 5 years of average price increases.
- Export Amount is the amount of electricity you expect to export to the grid i.e. it is not used by you. Assuming your house is not fully occupied normally during the day a value of 50% is considered suitable.
- FIT Rate is the amount of money per kWh you will be paid as part of the governments Clean Energy Cashback Sheme - full details of tariffs can be found here but 21p is the tariff for a retro-fit solar PV system of < 4 kWp.
- FIT Export Rate is the amount of money per kWh you will be paid by your power company if you export your power back to the grid. This is again defined in the Clean Energy Cashback Scheme but may be negotiable with your supplier.
- Inflation Rate is the expected average inflation rate over the next 25 years.
- FIT tariffs are index linked so they will rise in line with inflation.
- Estimated System Size is calculated on the basis of the roof size you have entered but you can choose a larger or smaller system to see how it changes the numbers.
- Estimated kWh per annum is calculated based on the UK Governments SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure)
