Ground mounted systems are more unusual, but we've got lots of experience installing them.
Ground Mounts are used where a PV array is to be sited on an area of land that is clear of shade and is south facing. The mounts can be made either from tannalised wood or from aluminium.
They can be placed in a single row or on a structure that allows for 2 or 3 panels high to be mounted. The ground mounts are erected and the panels are then attached to the frame.
Cabling is then run back to the inverter (ideally placed near the array) and then connected to the mains electricity supply.
Important Considerations
Space
If the system is to be positioned in rows we need to allow circa 2 metres between rows to avoid shading
Help With Planning Permission
Ground mounts are not part of permitted development rights so you may need planning permission - but we can help you with this process.
Protected Cable Runs
All cabling is armoured plated and buried underground.
Grid Connection
Ideally the grid connection point needs to be less than 50 metres away. The further away the bigger the cable required which increases cost to a degree.
Groundworks
We dig trenches to protect and hide the cabling. We take care to make sure we cause minimal disruption as far as possible.
Safety
Because the array is at ground level, it's accessible. Safety and security needs to be taken into consideration and we'll help you find the right solution.
Security
We can fit ground mounted panels with anti-theft fixings, but you may also need to consider a fence around the site to keep people out. Of course, this entirely depends upon the location of your ground mounted solar panel system.
