Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)A real alternative to oil or LPG gas for heating your homeThe high and rising cost of oil or LPG gas to heat your home is a very real concern for many householders as well as the inconvenience of arranging delivery. Installing an air source heat pump is a highly effective, low cost, low carbon alternative to an oil, electric or LPG gas based heating system. Unlike a Ground Source Heat Pump It does not involve digging up your garden or extensive, internal works. Becoming more commonplace now as the technology is proven and most installations take just a day or two with minimal disruption to your everyday life. Grants availableUp until the 31st March there is a government incentive payment called the Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP) of £850 for eligible homes towards the installation costs of an Air Source Heat Pump. You could also be eligible for the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive scheme that is due to be launched in the autumn of 2012 though details of how this scheme will operate are not yet available. Savings and system costsThe average cost of a fully installed system is between £4,000 - £8,000 depending on system size and set-up. Savings of up to 60% on your oil or LPG gas bill can be achieved. There are running costs to take into consideration as the pump runs on electricity but because air source heat pumps are so efficient (the Mitsubishi Ecodan pumps that we use is typically 300-400% efficient) it generally costs less than modern gas boilers to run ! Adding solar energy will save even more!Air Source Heat Pumps are particularly well suited to solar pv or solar thermal systems – if you already have a system then this will work exceptionally well. We are fully accredited to fit all technologies and offer a very attractive discount if you wish to install an air source heat pump system combined with solar pv and/ or solar thermal. Are Heat Pumps Noisy ?There is an assumption that air source heat pumps are noisy and some manufacturers models are! No heat pump is silent in operation so positioning is crucial to satisfy all requirements including how you use your outside space. We use the Mitsubishi Ecodan range of heat pumps which is arguably the best in the marketplace. The noise levels range from 45dBa to 53dBa depending on size. To put this in context these noise levels are less noisy than a gas boiler and are likened to normal living noise such as talking or a low volume radio or tv on in the background.
Be Aware! There are many heat pumps on the market and as it becomes an increasingly popular form of heating there are many installers also on the market. A heat pump is not suitable for every home and the efficiency and therefore the cost savings that you can make are significantly impacted by how you use your system. We undertake a full no-obligation survey for you to determine if this is the right technology for you and take you through how to use the system to its best advantage so that you get the maximum return.
